Why I Won't Be Blogging on NY Fashion Week and Other Stories of the Week

Captain's Log 1. Blog Week 127.

Dear Blog Readers. I find myself sitting at my desk at the end of a long week of fashion. I have managed to complete a marathon five shoots in six days and be a dutiful daughter to my dad for his 70th birthday. And in this time much has happened in the fashion world. Some of it even covered on this very blog.
Let me help you through the week in review.

1. The grand old Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week has begun. It is no longer at Bryant Park - now it is at Lincoln Centre. I am sure we will get used to it. I just wanted to mention it and let you know that there are a gazillion blogs out there that will carry all the information and the twitter feed is obviously in real time so go to it. I carry only the news and reviews that are personal in some way to me. Things that I can give you an inside line on. Which is why I have used the image from Christian Siriano's collection above. Modelled by the very polite (to me) Cecilee Lopez (African Model of the Year. Sigh.) and I loved CS on Project Runway. C'mon, we all said 'fierce' for a while.

2. Big news of the week was designer Roland Mouret getting the use of his name back. Poor oke sold it out when he left his eponymous line and launched RM for Gap a few years ago. Now he can use it again and has celebrated by announcing his new 6-story atelier to open in London's Carlos Place next year. I had a couple of RM for Gap dresses but they were too winter-heavy for SA.

3. I covered my-mate-Alexa's GQ Awards outfit earlier in the week (click here) but it is worth mentioning that the Alexa Chung For Madewell collection has also launched this week - see the look book above. Popbitch also did a snide piece on AC this week - implying that it is her brother Dom that puts her DJ sets together on her iPod for her. Meh. Who cares.

4. Apparently Kate Moss is giving up the wild lifestyle. She has said that the parties and drinking have worn thin. We will see. However, what we do know for sure now is that she will not be abandoning Topshop completely (as I said here) but will be delivering limited edition collections intermittantly after October. Good to know.

5. Who knew that Blake Lively is as popular as she appears to be. I mean, I like her. Anna Wintour really likes her. But it seems you all do too. I posted on her twice this week. Here and here.

6. Designer/high street collabs are happening thick and fast. The Lanvin for H&M marriage was confirmed earlier this week despite the misgivings that I posted, and then last night the Valentino for Gap collection was announced. At this point I don't know what to say other than I really, really think this has all gone too far.

So I will leave it for now and wish you all a jolly good weekend.
